I had heard about the apparitions of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (in Garabandal) still in Lviv, Ukraine, before I arrived in Canada over a year and a half ago.
Within the first few days following my arrival in Toronto, I happened to be at a presentation of a book by Petro Hrynchyshyn, "From Zarvanytsia to Garabandal". It was in this book that I first encountered the names of Dr. & Mrs. Rozeluk and I immediately thought, how nice it would be to meet these unusual people.
The first opportunity presented itself in Orangeville, Ontario (Canada) at the Monastery of the Mother of God, where the Rozeluks had been invited by the Studite monks for (a presentation following) Sunday Mass.
Helen (Rozeluk) attracted my attention from the very first by a certain mysterious glow that seemed to light her up from the inside, as though Our Lady of Garabandal were enveloping her, as She did with the children of Garabandal. As for Michael (Rozeluk), it is impossible to see him in any other way than as a good doctor who, with open heart, hurries to meet the needs of the sicck, who are in need of help and healing.
On that first Sunday, I came up to Helen (to venerate the medal with Out Lady's kiss) and for some reason I cried the entire time that she was praying over me.
For the past three years, I had had problems bending my knee which was in constant pain. I subconsciously hoped for relief, although my prayers to the Blessed Mother were of a different nature. I was asking for the gift of prayer, fasting and the repentance for my sins during my lifetime.
Following the prayers of either Helen or Michael, one always seems to rise to a higher level of spirituality. That is why I was not saddened when I did not receive an immediate healing. "I am not worthy", I explained to myself.
For about half a year we were experiencing a spiritual banquet because Dr. Michael and Helen visited us on almost every second Sunday of each month. Their visits were always and without exception, a great and meaningful feast for all of us. As a matter of fact, I noticed that in their prayer, they ask for the very favour you yourself are asking of Our Lord or the Blessed Mother.
On the last occasion, it was Dr. Michael that prayed over me. He asked Our Lord, if it be His will, to permit me to feel Baby Jesus in my arms and he also asked for my healing.
I cannot say that I lost consciousness because I heard and understood everything well. I was simply, suddenly unable to stand and finding myself in a horizontal position on the floor of the church, I felt an intense heat from the floor between my shoulder blades. I was struck by this sensation and it remained in my memory.
I have never experienced anything like this before, although every contact with the medals in the hands of these people was very uplifting and accompanied by a feeling of the extraordinariness of the event. This time, I remained in that sublime state for several days then suddenly I noticed that, for the first time in three years, my knee was flexing normally and I felt no pain or discomfort in any position.
A certain time afterwards I had a dream about Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Shining with a supernatural light, She was majestically ascending the stairs of the monastery with little Jesus in Her arms.
Some time ago, at the monastery of the Mother of God, after (hearing my) confession, Father Taras paused in thought, then said to me, "Gertruda, you are here for a reason. You are not here just to make perogies. God brought you here for a purpose." ... And was it not because Our Heavenly Mother had intended a rendez-vous with me, as with many other parishioners of the (monastery) church of the Mother of God? And She announced it in a wondrous way through Helen and Michael Rozeluk.
