Eye Healing

Dear Maria Josefa:

I would like to relate what happened to me.

We left Barcelona on Saturday July 31 [year not given] and arrived around 7:00 P.M., at Sancho el Fuerte on the road that borders Tudela. When I went to take a shower, I slipped and fell hitting my eye against the side of the bathtub.

The next day, my wife telephoned the doctor mentioned in the certificate [that accompanied the letter to Josefa Gallego], and we went to Zaragoza to see him about my eye. The doctor in the village where the accident occurred had already given me eight stitches for the cut where my eye hit the tub.

After the exam, the doctor kept me in bed for thirteen days in Tudela, at the Remigio Hotel, so that my eye, in his own words, "would not empty itself."

August 15, [feast of the Assumption] we arrived in San Sebastian de Garabandal to attend the noon Mass that is celebrated there every year. After lunch, we prayed the rosary, and after that we made the Way of the Cross. We met some friends there from Madrid and Oviedo, as we usually do on that day, and when it got to be 7:00 P.M., I told them we had to leave for Torrelavega while it was still daylight, since it would be a long trip for someone with only one good eye.

They agreed with me, and after saying goodbye, my wife and I headed out through the enclosed patio. I was leading the way with my wife and our friends following when about 20 meters away from the building, I felt a blow to my face like somebody hitting me with a broom. When I covered my left eye with my hand, I realized that I was seeing with my right eye, which was the one traumatized. I asked my wife to give me something to read, and I was able to read a piece of paper with very small print. The two ladies with us began to shout, "Miracle, miracle!" They wanted to have it printed in the newspapers, but I wouldn't allow it.

In that moment the bruises and swelling of my eyelid that I had had for thirteen days suddenly disappeared, and my eye looked the same as the other.

We wish you and your family the protection of Our Lady as she has protected us.
