Ukraine 2004 - Asthma Healing
Confession - Eh?
My Thanksgiving

My name is Maria Sychevska. I was born in 1939 and I live in the city of Zolochiv, Lviv province, Ukraine. I am a medical nurse by profession.

In 1975, the doctors diagnosed me with allergic bronchial asthma. From then on, I was treated with medication and, twice a year, I underwent in-patient treatments in the hospital. After some time, the medication no longer worked and I was given an inhaler, which I had to use for particularly severe asthma attacks. In the last several years, these attacks have been very frequent (3 to 5 per day), particularly at night. I was then given another, even stronger inhaler.

One day, my co-workers told me that on May 11, 2004, at our church of the Resurrection  of Our Lord in Zolochiv, there would be a Divine Liturgy and Moleben to the Mother of God for the healing of the sick. Following the Liturgy, there would be a meeting with Dr. Michael and Helen Rozeluk, who were here from Canada and were apostles of Our Lady of Garabandal. They would be speaking about the miraculous apparitions of Our Lady in Garabandal and about the healing of Michael and many other people with the miraculous medal that carries the kiss of Our Lady of Garabandal. The evening was to end with prayers for healing and with veneration of the miraculous medals.

When I arrived for the Divine Liturgy at 4 p.m., there were already so many people that I couldn't make my way inside the church. I had to remain standing outside. All around the church, priests were hearing confessions. Although I heard Dr. Michael's words that, before approaching to kiss the medal, one should go to confession, I still did not go. I felt that I had not had time to prepare myself properly at home, for I had only heard about the event shortly before the service began.

During the Liturgy I had another asthma attack but I used my inhaler, which is always with me, and the attack subsided. Then, after Mass, I waited a long time for my turn to kiss the medal, getting quite upset because there were people who pushed their way into line ahead of others. Finally, I reached Dr. Michael and kissed his medal.

On my way home with another lady, I had another, very strong, asthma attack. I felt no improvement after kissing the medal.

Then, on May 20th, on the feast of the Ascension of Our Lord, I went to the Pontifical High Mass, celebrated by Bishop Sofronius Mudry at the Basilian Church here in Zolochiv. During the Holy Liturgy I went to confession. After hearing my confession, the priest let me kiss his medal from Garabandal again. (ED.: This priest was given a medal by the Rozeluks during their visit.) Then I received the Eucharistic Jesus [in Holy Communion].

When I returned home after the Holy Liturgy, I felt better. I did not need the inhaler for the rest of that day. Although I still have asthma, I no longer have the bad attacks I had previously. Since that time, I have needed to use an inhaler only once - and it was the weaker one, Salbutamol - whereas before, I would need it several times a day. I have not needed the stronger inhaler at all.

To this day, June 29, 2004,  I find it hard to believe what has happened. I am very grateful to our good Lord and to the Mother of God for this great relief, for such an extraordinary grace of God's love. Following the advice of my confessor, I have decided to make public my thanksgiving for the greater glory of God and for the increase in faith of other sick people who may have illnesses similar to mine.
